McNeil High School Cross Country Hosts the LARGEST Cross Country Race in Texas!

McNeil has the BEST coaches, students, and volunteers!! A huge THANK YOU for helping run the 2025 Hoka McNeil XC Invitational!

Over two days, McNeil hosted 6012 athletes from almost 400 schools representing 3 states (Texas, Louisiana, and California) to compete in the Hoka McNeil XC Invitational!

YOUR Varsity Maverick Boys ran in the Elite Gold Division and placed 27th against some of the best teams in the state!

YOUR Varsity Maverick Girls ran in the Elite Silver Division and placed 22nd. Justine Peterson placed 3rd overall in that race!

YOUR JV Maverick Boys placed 4th Overall in the 5A-6A Boys Race. Maverick Junior Reese Portie medaled in 8th place!

THANK YOU to the McNeil Cross Country Booster Club for your tireless work to host the largest XC high school meet in the state of Texas! Over 6,000 runners were registered for this event. Athletes included teams from Texas, Louisiana and California.

Whether you were flagging the course, loading the U Haul, putting out signs, setting up early, running registration, driving a golf cart, passing out medals, monitoring the course, parking cars, picking up food, donating water & ice, floating, and especially cleaning up afterward, you were a significant part of what made this 2-day event such a success.

Coach Wooten and Coach Hightower, thank you for coaching our McNeil athletes and for all you did - that we don't even know about - to make this event happen. We know this is so much work and y'all did the most. THANK YOU!

This event is not just a XC & Track fundraiser, it brings in revenue for multiple other athletic teams. We are so grateful for all the help and impressed with our incredibly responsible students.Thank you to our McNeil Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, and Athletic Training teams as well as Lago Vista for bringing coaches, students, and booster club volunteers.

We had tons of positive feedback from runners, parents, coaches, and spectators. If you are a 2025 XC & Track booster club member, please watch for an announcement about the next booster club meeting after the Old Settlers Park dust settles.

Did you know.. The California team was from McFarland. The same team from the beloved XC movie, based on a true story, McFarland USA.

Panorama Student Survey Consent Information from the RRISD Coordinator for Counseling Services

Round Rock ISD is committed to the well-being of all our students. Round Rock ISD Board Goal Four measures student perceptions of Sense of Belonging, Safety at School, and Student Self-Efficacy. Since 2023, the district has used a survey from Panorama Education to help us understand these perceptions.

In previous years, parents could opt-out of this survey. However, with the passage of Senate Bill 12, your student must be opted-in for them to participate.

Our district values input from our community and we want to hear from your child(ren) so that we may learn about their experiences. While we encourage your student’s participation in the survey so that we use the data to make informed decisions about increasing our student’s sense of belonging in RRISD, we also believe in your right to make the choice that is best for your student and family.

On September 19, 2025, you should have received an email from Round Rock ISD with the subject line of “Action Required: Panorama Student Survey Consent” The link embedded in the email will take you to a form to either Opt-In or Opt-Out for your student’s participation in the Panorama Survey.

  • To review the questions on the survey, please click on the links below.

    • 3rd-5th Grades: Student Perception and Climate

    • 6th-12th Grades: Competencies and Climate

The survey will be administered during the weeks of October 6-17 (Fall Survey) and March 2-13 (Spring Survey). To give your consent for your student to take the survey, please make your selection by September 29, 2025.

From YOUR Cheer Team: Exciting Senior ad Opportunity for all Seniors!

Dear McNeil Maverick Nation,

I hope this message finds you well! We are reaching out to invite your Seniors to participate in our special Fundraiser honoring the Senior Class of McNeil High School, designed to celebrate and recognize the amazing journey of our graduating class.

For a $50 contribution, Seniors can submit a photo of themselves along with a short bio that will be beautifully featured in the upcoming spirit program. This is a wonderful opportunity for your seniors to be publicly acknowledged and celebrated among their peers, friends, and family.

Not only does this fundraiser support important senior events and activities, but it also provides each senior with a lasting keepsake — a personalized memento capturing their unique story and achievements during their final year.

We would be grateful if you could encourage your seniors to take part in this meaningful experience. It’s a chance for them to shine and leave a memorable mark on their senior year.

If any seniors have questions, they are welcome to reach out to Coach Madison, directly (Justin_Madison@RoundRockISD.org). Or stop by room A114.

Thank you so much for your support and for helping us make this year truly special for our Seniors!

Traffic at McNeil High School

The MOST important thing we do at McNeil High School is ensure our students are safe. This includes before and after school, during student arrival and dismissal. So, how do we ensure 2,800 people are safe as they ALL try to leave the same place at the exact same time? It takes YOUR HELP!

If you have not done so already, please view this screencastify video for updated "Traffic and Parking Instructions" or this Google Presentation. Watching and following the directions in this video will ensure our students are safe and will also save you time.

NOTE:  DO NOT PARK at the YMCA before or after school!  As we communicated last week via text and email, McNeil High School Administration was advised the YMCA is hiring off-duty police officers to manage their parking lot situation and is also contracting with a tow truck company to begin removing vehicles that do not belong to YMCA members or visitors during the 2025-2026 school year.

  • PLEASE DO NOT park or drive through the YMCA parking lot during school drop-off or pick-up hours

  • The YMCA will begin towing non-member vehicles from their lot.

Updates from Round Rock ISD: Cell phone Update From Round Rock ISD -- A new state law requires students to store personal communication devices out of sight from bell to bell. Items that must now be stored away all day on Round Rock ISD campuses include:

● Personal cell phones

● Tablets

● Gaming devices

● Smart watches

● Bluetooth headphones or earbuds

● Fitness trackers that can send or receive messages

● Personal (non-district-issued) computers

● Two-way radios

● Pagers

● Any other device capable of digital communication.

Updates from Round Rock ISD: Round Rock ISD Changes Final Exam Requirements

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, Round Rock ISD high schools will no longer be required to administer cumulative final exams, implement finals week schedules, or offer final exam exemptions based on attendance. The shift is designed to maximize instruction time, reduce stress, and support authentic learning.

Under the new approach:

● Cumulative final exams will no longer be required, though teachers may still choose to assign them at their discretion.

● Final exam exemptions will be eliminated, meaning all students will participate in end-of-semester learning activities.

● Finals week bell schedules will be discontinued, allowing schools to maintain their regular instructional schedules through the last day of the semester.

“This change aligns with our commitment to student-centered learning and gives teachers the flexibility to assess students in ways that are more aligned to their course objectives,” said Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez.

Instead of traditional finals, students may complete projects, presentations, performance tasks, or quarterly exams—many of which build cumulatively toward semester goals. Written assessments may also be given before the last week of the semester to allow time for grading.

Semester grades will be calculated as an average of the two quarter grades:

● Q1 + Q2 = Semester 1 grade

● Q3 + Q4 = Semester 2 grade

The change does not affect State of Texas End-of-Course (EOC) exams, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or dual-credit college courses, which will continue to follow their respective assessment schedules. The changes are reflected in updates to the Student Handbook (linked) and campus-level procedures.
