Spicewood Principal Newsletter

Hello Spicewood Families,

It’s been another wonderful week at Spicewood, and I want to thank our families for your continued support and enthusiasm—it truly helps make our school such a special place! Looking ahead, we have an exciting week coming up filled with fun and meaningful events. We’ll be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with themed dress-up days, hosting our first annual Dyslexia Dash, and our 5th graders will showcase their hard work and creativity in the Living Museum. It’s sure to be a week full of learning, laughter, and school spirit. Be sure to check below and your child’s classroom newsletter for all the details on each event!

As we (hopefully!) head into cooler weather, this is a friendly reminder to please label your child’s jackets, hats, gloves, and other cold-weather gear with their full name. Our lost and found tends to fill up quickly this time of year, and having names on items makes it much easier for us to return them to their owners. The same goes for water bottles and lunchboxes—thank you for helping us keep belongings out of the lost and found and back in the right hands!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Melanie Solis

Principal

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week: October 27th - October 31st

During RRW students will explore and celebrate making healthy choices for their minds, bodies, and hearts. There will be mini lessons on Broadcast each day with prompts for a short discussion/activity, and students (and staff!) will celebrate healthy living by dressing in a different theme each day.

Red Ribbon Spirit Days:

  • Monday: DREAM of healthy choices! Wear pajamas

  • Tuesday: We are a healthy COMMUNITY! Wear Spicewood spirit wear

  • Wednesday: Being healthy is NO SWEAT! Wear sweats or active wear

  • Thursday: We can be healthy from HEAD to TOE! Wear crazy socks and/or hair/hat

  • Friday: Making healthy choices builds CHARACTER! Dress up as your favorite book character and bring the book if you have it

Dyslexia Awareness Month

Did you know that many common beliefs about dyslexia are actually myths? Unless someone you love has dyslexia, it can be hard to know what's true. This video from Understood.org helps clear up some common misunderstandings and shares what dyslexia is really about.

This year we are going to celebrate our unique and brilliant students with a Dyslexia Awareness Dash (fun run) on October 30th. Please click this link if you are interested in attending.
