Forest North News

Winter is here! All district events for this weekend are canceled, including athletics, UIL competitions and fine arts performances for Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25. After-school district events will continue for today (Friday, Jan. 23), including the Instrument Discovery Day for incoming 6th graders at Pearson Ranch MS this afternoon.

RRISD staff are closely monitoring the weather situation and will share any additional weather-related communications via email, social media, and on the website if there are any changes to our schedule for Monday, Jan. 26. The 2-hour delayed start schedule is shared below, in case it is needed for Monday. Please also read our outdoor play guidelines and bundle your kids up for the cold weather. We try to go outside every day if it's not too wet or if it's below 34 degrees.

To learn more about RRISD weather protocols, visit our Inclement Weather webpage. Also, check out these Inclement Weather Resources for Families.

Hope you all stay safe and warm this weekend!

Temperatures or wind chills are at or above 40 degrees: outdoor play

We feel that free play outdoors and fresh air are critical parts of the school experience, so we will take students outside if at all possible, especially when temperatures or wind chills are above 40 degrees.

Temperatures or wind chills below 34 degrees: indoor play only

Temperatures or windchills between 34 and 40 degrees: We will use discretion and choose indoor, outdoor or a modified (shortened) outdoor recess. We will do our best to prioritize outdoor play, but also keep students safe.

Dressing for Cold Weather

When the weather is cold, please assume students will be going outside to play and bundle them up with coats, hats, gloves and pants in the morning. Please also label all items with your child’s name.

Thank you for your support through our short Texas winter season.

Global School Play Day Coming Soon!

Forest North will celebrate Global School Play Day on Friday, February 13th. This is a day designed to celebrate the value of play for children. We believe strongly that play is essential in childhood and becomes the building block to learning, both academically and socially. In a world full of too much screen time, it is even more critical. Our teacher teams are planning a day of fun and lots of learning for February 13th. They will reach out with more information and for game requests if they need them.

You can read all about the value of play and this globally recognized day here: GSPD.
