Health Care Consent Forms Needed for all Students

A new state law, Senate Bill 12, requires school districts to notify families about the health services we provide and to collect your permission before your child can receive these services at school.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Starting September 1, 2025, we must have your opt-in consent on file before school staff, including nurses, teachers, counselors, social workers, and in some cases, coaches, can provide health-related services for your child.

  • Without consent, staff will not be able to perform even basic care, such as taking a temperature for a sick child or cleaning a scraped knee.

  • In an emergency, staff will always provide care, even without consent.

  • Forest North staff stand by the health, social-emotional, academic and counseling services we provide to students and consider them critical for student safety, growth and learning.

You have received an email from PowerSchool with instructions to update your child’s registration forms. If you have not received an email from PowerSchool, please check your spam or junk folders or contact your school's office.

  • The form includes two separate questions: one for health services and one for mental health services. You may choose to opt in for either, both, or neither, depending on your preferences.

It's very important for you to take a few minutes to complete the consent form once you receive the notification. This ensures your child can continue receiving the health services you approve during the school day. We must have a consent form on file for every FNE student.

If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the Forest North administrators or counselors. We are happy to help you better understand our services and the consent forms.

WE ARE RAISING FUNDS FOR Student Enrichment and Technology Upgrades

WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING? At Forest North Elementary, our mission is to provide all of our students with the best education and school experience possible and to ensure they have the tools they need to learn and grow. Unfortunately, this requires fundraising every year for what our school funding does not cover.

WHY DID WE PARTNER WITH APEX LEADERSHIP CO.? Raising necessary funds requires a surprising amount of time and expertise. We chose a partner that will come alongside our school community with their all-inclusive program that not only will bring in more proceeds than we could bring in on our own, but they will do it in such a way that uplifts the staff, inspires the students, and brings our community together for a fun celebration.

Apex is a two-week interactive student leadership program that culminates with a fitness fundraiser. The Apex Leadership curriculum aligns with our school’s vision of cultivating a positive, inclusive, and achievement-focused community. All students are included in the leadership program and fitness event regardless of financial participation in the fundraiser.

HELPING IS EASY! If you are able to financially contribute, please know that no donation is too small. Please also consider allowing your students to invite family and friends to sponsor them in their Fun Run! With Apex, over 70% of donations typically come from outside the immediate family, so the burden does not just fall on parents. Please check out the Parent FAQ for more details.

Pledging Opens: September 02

Fun Run Day: September 12

  • Your student will come home with a VIP Access Badge with a unique QR code. Scan the QR code to go to their personal pledging page.

  • From your student’s personal pledging page, click Enter Pledge and/or Share to invite 5-10 family and friends to sponsor as well.

  • Sponsors can choose to make a flat donation or pledge a dollar amount per minute your student completes at the Fun Run event. All students will receive credit for 42 minutes for participating in the 42-minute event. Therefore, a $1/minute pledge would total $42. (42 minutes x $1).

FNE Students Issued New Chromebooks!

Good News! As part of RRISD Bond 2024 and a commitment to 1:1 student devices, all Forest North 2nd-5th graders have received new Chromebooks for instructional use! We are thrilled to have updated computers! They serve as important instructional tools and also help students practice making responsible choices with their instructional materials and in the digital world.

Please keep in mind that families are responsible for lost or damaged Chromebooks. In accordance with the RRISD Chromebook Guide and Student/Parent Use Agreement, which parents signed at enrollment, if your student’s computer or charger is damaged, lost, or not returned, you are responsible for the cost of repair or replacement. New computers are expensive! Please re-read the user agreement linked above and note the fees below. Click here for more information on RRISD's Chromebook policies.

Forest North staff will continue to plan lessons that include high-tech and low-tech learning experiences for kids. We know there is a time and place for screen time, and will work hard to find an age-appropriate balance from grade to grade. If you have questions about how the new Chromebooks or other technology are used in your child's classroom, reach out to your homeroom teacher for more details.
