Good evening, Coyotes!
The carnival on the 10th was incredible, and I had so much fun. It was great seeing our community come together and enjoy time with one another. The rides, animals, food, and activities were all a hit. Thank you to Marta and her committee, and to all of our family volunteers for their time and dedication. Thank you as well to Bogdan and our WATCH D.O.G.S. dads for helping with grilling. I was so impressed with everything. Not even the storms could stop the fun!
Then, we had a fun week of learning across campus. Students are continuing to build new skills in their classrooms and in the library, with lots of hands-on learning and creating. I love seeing students build, design, and learn through those experiences. Engagement is high, and students are really owning their learning.
We also had an exciting weekend with two student events. Our Robotics team participated in a Robotics Showcase, where they demonstrated their coding, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, and represented our campus well. Another set of students competed in the first round of Math Pentathlon competitions. Math Pentathlon is an after-school program and academic competition that uses strategy games to strengthen mathematical reasoning, spatial awareness, and logic.
We are so proud of the effort and focus from both our student groups, and we thank Mrs. Koenning, Mrs. Herrera, and our family volunteers for supporting and providing these experiences for our students!
Our garden is also thriving. We have a variety of flowers, plants, and vegetables growing, and it is incredible to see what students have produced. I do not have a green thumb, but our students and staff definitely do.
Recently, we updated the background on all student Chromebooks across campus. Our goal is to reinforce that Chromebooks are school-issued devices used for learning, similar to a library book that is checked out.
We noticed students were spending time personalizing backgrounds, which was taking away from instructional time. In some cases, students were also using screenshots of assignments as their background to make it appear they were on task when they were not.
This update helps us:
Keep students focused on learning
Create consistency across devices
Reinforce responsible use of school property
If your child mentions the change, a simple message to reinforce is that Chromebooks are school devices provided for learning, and the background serves as a reminder of their purpose.
Thank you for your continued support. We appreciate you, are proud to be part of such an amazing community, and look forward to seeing you on Monday!
Best,
Briana Flores
