Update from Principal Randels
Dear COE Families,
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! I hope all of you had a safe, fun and relaxing summer. I am very excited to welcome back all of our Cheetahs and for the opportunity to welcome some new Cheetahs to this school year. Please see the information below regarding important updates for the start of the school year! I look forward to seeing all of you on the first day of school!! "It's a great day to be a Cheetah!"
August 8th- Welcome Walk, 5-7pm
Welcome Walk: This years Welcome Walk will take place on Friday, August 8th, between 5:00-7:00 pm. All students in grades 1st-5th who are zoned for COE will meet their teacher at their driveway during this time! This is a wonderful tradition, so please be prepared, as teachers will be moving quickly to ensure they meet all their students. Our PreK & Kindergarten Cheetahs will have a separate time to meet their teachers to ensure a smooth transition for all! If you are a transfer family, you will receive an email from your classroom teacher on August 8th at 7:30pm.
Car Tag Dismissal Process for All Parent Walk-Ups: Please be sure that if you are walking up to pick up your child/children, you MUST have your hanging car tag. Students new to COE will receive that car tag in their welcome packet. All returning families will need to have their car tag with them at dismissal for car pick up and parent walk-ups. In addition, parent walk-ups will line up outside along the south wall (we will have signs out for your) and wait for your child(ren) to come meet you. We are asking for your assistance in following the procedures so that we can ensure all children are dismissed in a timely fashion. There are no changes being made to car rider procedures or independent walkers/riders. If you have misplaced yours, please reach out to the front office ASAP.
Classroom assignments: After the Welcome Walk, all families will receive an email on Friday, August 8th at 7:30 pm so that all children know who their teacher will be for the 2025-26 school year. Due to a large increase in transfers, we will not be hosting transfer families to meet on the porch before the Welcome Walk. We are excited to meet all of our new families and welcome them to meet their teacher at our supply drop-off!
Curriculum Updates: RRISD will be implementing the Blue Bonnett curriculum in Math only. This curriculum was implemented last year in some grade levels and was known as Eureka Math. The district will be sending out communication regarding any information around the possibility of adopting the Blue Bonnett curriculum in ELAR early this fall. If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out.
Student-Parent Handbook 2025-2026 Please take some time to check out our 2025-2026 Student-Parent Handbook. Please note that the homework policy is currently under review and subject to change. Parents will be notified of any changes. Parent Student Handbook 2025-2026
What is the Learner Profile?
One of the goals of all the IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. In order to accomplish this goal, learners strive to demonstrate the 10 attributes of the Learner Profile. As IB learners, we strive to be:
Inquirers: We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.
Open-Minded: We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
Knowledgeable: We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
Caring: We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
Thinkers: We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
Risk-Takers: We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.
Communicators: We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
Balanced: We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.
Principled: We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
Reflective: We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

We believe that these attributes, and others like them, can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities. How do you demonstrate these attributes at home? At the grocery store? What about when we are at a park? These are not attributes we only strive to show at school, but wherever we are! Talk with your child about these attributes and let them know when you notice them demonstrating one of them.
