A Note from the Principal

Hello Blackland Prairie Families,

We are so grateful for the wonderful dads who took time out of their busy schedules to come and teach a science lesson to our 5th-grade students. What a powerful example of Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs. Our students loved learning alongside these role models, and we are thankful for the way our families continue to support and enrich the learning happening at Blackland Prairie.

This year, we are also focusing deeply on math growth for all students. Our teachers are working intentionally to create meaningful learning experiences, and our students are rising to the challenge. We are excited to see the progress they will make throughout the year as they build both confidence and skills in math.

And finally, our Book Fair has arrived! This is always such a special time on campus, as students and families explore new books and share in the joy of reading. We look forward to welcoming you at our events next week and can’t wait to see the excitement on students’ faces as they discover their next great read.

As always, stay safe and have fun out on the Prairie!

Thank you all for your participation in this year’s International Fair and for taking the time to create such thoughtful presentations to share with our school community. We are excited to share this link for families to preview the display boards ahead of the event. This preview helps ensure clear communication and allows our PTA to confirm that all materials align with the expectations for this elementary-level event. Displays should reflect:

  • Age- and grade-appropriate content

  • A focus on sharing cultural traditions and information about countries

  • No political opinions or biases

If you have any questions or feedback regarding the displays, please contact Mr. Fleming and the PTA President by Tuesday, October 7th. Thank you again for your support and for helping make the International Fair a meaningful experience for our students!

Reminder from Nurse Krissy: Please remember to send a change of clothes with your child. Unexpected accidents can happen, such as potty accidents, spills at lunch, or getting muddy at recess. Having an extra set of clothes on hand is always a good idea.

Cafeteria Video: Please take a moment to watch this brief, 4-minute video outlining our cafeteria expectations and behavior guidelines. We greatly appreciate parental support in reinforcing the good table manners students are learning at school, so they can carry them into their homes and public settings. Thank you for your continued support.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders- Part 2

Thank you for your continued support and adherence to our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal procedures.

We are excited to share the progress we've already made in 2 weeks! On the first day of school, dismissal took us almost until 3:35 p.m. to have all students exit the building. By the week during normal dismissal (outside the rainy day/lightning delay) we improved to 3:08. So impressed with all of your efforts with following the rules. Below are a few reminders to keep us safe and one update (shared above as well in the NEW this Week Section):

Reminders

  • Our student safety patrol is back on schedule. You will see students in yellow vests assisting with opening and closing doors.

  • Back carider lane does not allow for left turns out of the parking lot. This is posted on the STOP sign and can cause a serious collision for those traveling on Fernspring.

  • Back walkers should enter the campus via the sidewalk closest to the pond. No walkers should cross from Trailing Vine to this location. All walkers need to utilize the crossing guards that are stationed at the two 4-way stops located at the front of the school and in the back by the pond.

Update

  • You will now see cones placed in the front parking lanes next to our crosswalk for our district busses during MORNING drop-off. There has been additional busses add to our campus this year and the times are adjusted where they are not coming in right at 7:10 am. Car rider parents, please be aware of this change and following staff directions to keep this section open for this campus need once the busses arrive on campus.

Any student arriving late (after 7:35 AM) must be signed in at the front office by a parent or guardian. Please do not drop off your child without signing them in if they are late, as we will need to call you to return and complete the process. Thank you for your understanding.
