A Note from the Principal

Hello, Blackland Prairie Families,

Welcome Back!

It has been such a joy to see our hallways filled with energy and smiles once again. I hope you all had a fantastic winter break filled with rest, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones. We truly missed our students, and we are thrilled to have everyone back on campus as we kick off the second half of the school year.

This week, our school focus was on Habit 3: Put First Things First. This habit is all about prioritization and self-discipline. It means spending time on the most important things, doing the "big rocks" (important tasks) before the "little rocks" (less urgent tasks).

How to Practice Habit 3 at Home: The "Work First, Then Play" Rule: Encourage your child to complete their homework or chores before turning on the TV or playing video games. Use a Family Calendar: Create a weekly visual schedule so children can see upcoming responsibilities and plan accordingly. Prioritization Conversations: Ask your child, "What is the most important thing you need to get done today?" and help them tackle that item first.

As we settle back into our routines, please be aware that we will conduct Middle of the Year (MOY) testing for all grade levels throughout January.

These assessments are a vital tool for measuring how much our students have learned since the fall. We aren't just looking at scores; we are looking for growth. We look forward to seeing the progress each student has made and using that data to better support their individual needs for the rest of the year.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education!

As always, stay safe and take care out on the Prairie!

Did You Know?

Did You Know to support student safety, digital citizenship, and social-emotional well-being, Round Rock ISD partnered with GoGuardian this fall to implement the Beacon digital monitoring system. Beacon helps district and campus staff monitor student online activity during the school day so potential safety concerns can be identified and support can be provided in a timely manner.

To support student safety, digital citizenship, and social-emotional well-being, Round Rock ISD partnered with GoGuardian this fall to implement the Beacon digital monitoring system. Beacon helps district and campus staff monitor student online activity during the school day to identify potential safety concerns and provide timely support when needed.

School-day monitoring hours in Beacon are 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on instructional days. On non-instructional days, district staff will not actively monitor Beacon notifications.

Outside of school hours, and during weekends, holidays and school breaks, parents and guardians may continue monitoring their student’s online activity by using the GoGuardian Parent Mobile App.

The Beacon system allows district staff and parents to view: Student online browsing activity and activity within the student’s district Google account. When enabled, Beacon generates notifications for online activity that may indicate that a student could benefit from additional support.

Parent Monitoring Encouraged

Parents and guardians are encouraged to download the GoGuardian Parent App to continue monitoring their students’ online activity during Winter Break and throughout the year outside of school hours or on non-instructional days. Thank you for partnering with us to support student safety and well-being, both online and offline.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders- Part 2

Thank you for your continued support and adherence to our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal procedures.

We are excited to share the progress we've already made in 2 weeks! On the first day of school, dismissal took us almost until 3:35 p.m. to have all students exit the building. By the week during normal dismissal (outside the rainy day/lightning delay) we improved to 3:08. So impressed with all of your efforts with following the rules. Below are a few reminders to keep us safe and one update (shared above as well in the NEW this Week Section):

Reminders

  • Our student safety patrol is back on schedule. You will see students in yellow vests assisting with opening and closing doors.

  • Back carider lane does not allow for left turns out of the parking lot. This is posted on the STOP sign and can cause a serious collision for those traveling on Fernspring.

  • Back walkers should enter the campus via the sidewalk closest to the pond. No walkers should cross from Trailing Vine to this location. All walkers need to utilize the crossing guards that are stationed at the two 4-way stops located at the front of the school and in the back by the pond.

Update

  • You will now see cones placed in the front parking lanes next to our crosswalk for our district busses during MORNING drop-off. There has been additional busses add to our campus this year and the times are adjusted where they are not coming in right at 7:10 am. Car rider parents, please be aware of this change and following staff directions to keep this section open for this campus need once the busses arrive on campus.

Any student arriving late (after 7:35 AM) must be signed in at the front office by a parent or guardian. Please do not drop off your child without signing them in if they are late, as we will need to call you to return and complete the process. Thank you for your understanding.
