A Note from the Principal

Hello, Blackland Prairie Families,

This week, our students focused on Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. We talked about the importance of listening with empathy; using our ears, eyes, and hearts before responding. Families can support Habit 5 at home by encouraging children or adults to listen without interrupting, ask questions to understand others’ feelings, and practice explaining their own thoughts calmly and respectfully.

This morning, students also participated in DEAL (Drop Everything and Lead) groups, one of our favorite times of the month! During DEAL, students get to choose a group based on what excites them and spend 30 minutes exploring that interest. This experience empowers students by giving them voice and choice, while also allowing our staff to share passions beyond academic content.  Something they truly love!

Finally, a friendly reminder to please have your car rider number ready when picking up your child(ren). If you no longer have your number, please email your child’s teacher, and they will be happy to send a new one to you.

As always, stay safe and take care out on the Prairie!

Did You Know?

Did you know that in Teacher Believed in Me by David K. Hatch and Muriel T. Summers, students share stories of teachers who created supportive environments where they felt valued, respected, and encouraged to succeed. When teachers believed in their students, they built partnerships rooted in trust and mutual respect. Helping students understand that success is stronger when it is shared.

At Blackland Prairie, we support Habit 4 by:

Encouraging positive collaboration among students

Teaching problem-solving skills that honor multiple perspectives

Partnering with families to support student success

When students learn to think Win-Win, they develop empathy, teamwork, and leadership skills that prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Habit 4 helps students understand that we are stronger and more successful when we work together.

4th and 5th Grade Parent Information- New Anonymous Reporting System

Parents of 4th and 5th-grade students,

This past week, your child met with Mr. Fleming during PLC time for an introduction to the district’s new anonymous reporting system, Sandy Hook Promise: Say Something. Due to a shift in the district’s rollout timeline, our students received this training slightly ahead of the official launch date.

We want to ensure you are fully informed about the program and the resources available to your child. If you have any questions or concerns, Mr. Fleming is available to discuss the system with you via phone. Please feel free to reach out to him at mark_fleming@roundrockisd.org or 512-424-8689 to schedule a conversation.
