A Note from the Principal

Hello, Blackland Prairie Families,

This week, our students focused on Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs. We had meaningful conversations about discovering what makes each of us unique, our strengths, passions, and leadership abilities, and using those gifts to make a positive impact. Families can continue this conversation at home by asking your child what they feel confident about, what excites them, and how they can use their voice to help or encourage others.

Last night, we hosted our 5th grade information night as families prepare for the exciting transition to Ridgeview Middle School. While this time of year brings excitement and new beginnings, it can also feel a little bittersweet knowing some of our Prairie families will soon move on to their next chapter. We are committed to making the most of these final months together and celebrating every moment.

It was also wonderful to see so many families on campus today for our grade-level Valentine’s Day parties. Events like these remind us how special our school community truly is.

Looking ahead, we are getting excited for the Whiskers Fun Run, sponsored by our amazing PTA! This event adds extra fun to PE with obstacle courses and the opportunity for students to run alongside Whiskers, our beloved mascot. It is always a highlight and sure to be an exciting day for everyone involved.

We hope your family enjoys a restful long weekend. There will be no school for students on Monday and Tuesday. Staff will be off on Monday and engaged in professional development on Tuesday as we continue working to serve our students well.

As always, stay safe and take care out on the Prairie!

Did You Know?

Did you know that in the book Teacher Believed in Me by  David K. Hatch and Muriel T. Summers, students share how powerful it was when teachers truly listened to them. Feeling heard and understood helped students build confidence, take academic risks, and believe that their voice mattered. When teachers took time to understand their students, strong relationships were formed, and those relationships became the foundation for growth.

At Blackland Prairie, we support Habit 5 by:

-Teaching students how to listen with empathy and respect

-Creating classroom spaces where student voices are valued

-Encouraging thoughtful communication between students, staff, and families

When students feel understood, they are more willing to engage, collaborate, and persevere. Habit 5 helps students develop empathy, strengthen relationships, and build leadership skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
