A Note from the Principal

Welcome Back, Wildcat Families!

We are so excited to welcome our Wildcats back for the first day of school on Tuesday! On this day only, families are welcome to walk their child(ren) to class. Beginning Wednesday, we kindly ask that you say goodbye at the perimeter doors so our staff can help students get to their classrooms. We will have plenty of friendly Wildcats stationed in the hallways to guide and support them.

To help make the first week smooth, please practice morning and afternoon routines at home. Show your child(ren) where you will drop them off in the morning and where they will be picked up in the afternoon. If you have a dismissal change, please call the front office before 2:30 p.m. so we can ensure a safe and smooth transition.

For the first two weeks, we will pause lunch visitors to help students adjust to their new routines. Lunch visitors may begin August 25th. When visiting, you may enjoy lunch with your student on the stage area only; we are unable to allow visitors at class tables. Please also remember that food may not be brought for other students.

Thank you for partnering with us to make the start of this school year a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for all our Wildcats. We can’t wait to see everyone’s smiling faces on Tuesday!

As always, stay safe out on the Prairie!

Did You Know?

Thanks to the bond passed last school year, every 2nd–5th grade student will receive a brand new Chromebook with a protective case this year!

New This Week

Morning Drop-Off Procedures this Video serves as a friendly reminder of how we can all work together to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and parents during arrival time at the Prairie. Thank you, as always, for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and efficient start to the school day.

2025–2026 BPE Student After-School Departure Help us ensure a smooth and safe dismissal for your child! Please take a moment to complete the form HERE to let us know how your child will leave campus each day after school. Blackland Prairie staff will escort students to their designated dismissal locations. Walkers and bike riders will be dismissed at 2:55 PM. If students are to meet other students (siblings) prior to leaving campus, the meetings should occur at one of the locations listed and be pre-arranged by the students' parents. Please complete one form for each student attending Blackland Prairie. For car riders, click the link to watch the video about our dismissal system. https://youtu.be/b23VyhTO4YU This video describes the process for picking up your child (it was created a few years ago, but the process is the same). The QR code will be replaced with an "assigned number" due to feedback from last year's process. Please discuss this information with your child to avoid confusion during afternoon dismissal. If you need to change your child's usual campus departure instructions temporarily, please call the school's main number (512-424-8600) by 2:00 P.M. on the day the change is to occur. Please leave specific instructions for your child with an office staff member.

Our dismissal system uses car rider numbers to ensure student and staff safety.

  • Every student has a Car Rider Number, regardless of their regular dismissal method.

  • If there is an issue with your Car Rider Number, reach out to your student’s teacher.

  • Student leaders in safety patrol will assist in the car rider lines (front and back) to help children enter and exit vehicles.

    • Please ensure your vehicle doors are unlocked to allow for quick and efficient student drop-off and pick-up.

  • Only service animals are allowed on campus grounds. If bringing a pet, wait by the crosswalk areas at the edge of campus.

  • Back car rider lane is “TURN Right Only” during drop-off and pick-up times.

    • Previous years have seen accidents at this intersection, so it is essential to follow this rule for everyone’s safety.

  • Front and back walkers must walk to the crossing guards at Fern Spring/Via Sonoma or Fern Spring/Lake Forest.

    • Be proactive by following safety guidelines, even when no one is watching.

  • During severe weather, walkers will be held for 30 minutes after the last lightning strike before being dismissed.

    • If you need your child to leave earlier, an adult must pick them up from the front office.

  • To change your student’s dismissal plan, make changes before 2 pm. Keep an eye on the weather to decide in advance.

  • After 2 pm, the school will try to deliver last-minute dismissal changes, but during severe weather, the office may be overwhelmed.

    • When calling with changes, provide concise information (student's first and last name, teacher’s name, and new dismissal plan).

Reminders from the Office
