A Note from the Principal

Hello, Blackland Prairie Families,

We want to take a moment to celebrate our amazing 3rd–5th-grade students for the incredible effort, focus, and determination they showed during this week’s RLA STAAR test. We are so proud of the way our students approached the assessment with confidence and gave their very best. Their hard work truly reflects the growth and learning that has taken place all year long!

We also want to thank our families and community for your support and understanding as we maintained a closed and secure campus during testing. Your partnership helps us create a calm, focused environment where our students can do their best.

This week, we also focused on Habit #7: Sharpen the Saw, which reminds us how important it is to take care of ourselves so we can be our best for others. Whether it’s getting enough rest, spending time with family, being active, or doing something you enjoy, taking time to recharge helps us stay balanced and ready to learn and lead. We encourage families to talk about ways you “sharpen the saw” together at home.

We also had so much fun celebrating Mrs. Vogel and Mr. Fleming during National Assistant Principals Week! We are incredibly grateful for their leadership, dedication, and the many ways they support our students, staff, and community each and every day.

Looking ahead, our 5th graders will take the Science STAAR test next week. We know they are going to do amazing things! Families can support by ensuring students get plenty of rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and come to school with a positive mindset, ready to show what they know.

As we begin planning for next school year, please take a moment to check your email and complete your child’s re-enrollment forms. This helps us prepare and ensures a smooth start for the upcoming year.

Thank you for your continued support. We are so proud of our Wildcats and all they are accomplishing!

As always, stay safe and take care out on the Prairie!

Did You Know?

Did You Know? Leadership Day is one of the most vital assessment days in our school year, and you are the evaluators.

While standardized tests measure academic benchmarks, Leadership Day measures the quality of our community and our students' self-confidence. When our students stand before adults and articulate their goals, explain their failures, and celebrate their team successes, they are proving they are ready for the complexities of the real world.

Your presence validates their effort and gives them the confidence to continue leading. We cannot do this without you. Please make time in your schedule to celebrate with us on Friday, May 8th.

We can't wait to see you there! Click here to RSVP for Leadership Day on Friday, May 8th, 8:30-10:30am.

New This Week

Leading through Community. Our hearts are with a fellow Lighthouse campus following last week’s tragic accident involving one of their students. During this difficult time, we stand together in support and compassion. We invite our campus community to help by contributing to a meal train for the student’s family. Every year, the library inventories each book to make sure that everything is accounted for. To assist with making sure that all of our books get “home” to the Prairie, all library books will be due May 8th. Should a student’s book be lost, Ms. Craig will provide you with the replacement cost that can be paid online. Ms. Craig will provide an incentive to the first class in each grade level to have all books turned in! If books are not turned in (or paid for if lost), the student’s Chromebook will be locked. ***If a family has trouble with the replacement cost of the book, please contact Ms. Craig to collaborate on a solution. Parents can access their child’s checkout lists through Classlink to see the books checked out by the student.
